My brews came out perfectly and I
am so pleased. I was able to make
several extra to sell at the market.
While I was waiting on them to ferment, I worked on my teleportation spell. I was able to finally recite the spell and
make the correct gestures along with it.
My trainer felt I was ready to do it for real this time. I was nervous that I would mess it up and end
up in the nether. I was relieved when I
found myself at the temple in Darnassus.
An arch-mage was there upon my arrival to discuss the spell, what I did,
how I felt, etc. I was then instructed
to do the same spell, but to return to Stormwind. My confidence was higher and I cast it once
again. I am pleased to say that I am
still here and not in the nether. I am
now able to teleport to Darnassus, Stormwind, Ironforge and Exodar.
As I mentioned before, I planned on
going to Redridge to see if there was any work for me. I left soon after completing my teleportation
training. The guards at the border
directed me to seek out the Mayor of Lakeshire.
I found him and he seemed somewhat strained. Apparently his pleas for more soldiers have
gone unheralded by the King. I offered
my assistance and at first he refused saying I was too young (these humans just
cannot judge the age of us elves). I
chuckled and informed him that I was a lot older than he thought I was. He gave me an intense look and nodded. He said he may have been too hasty with his
refusal. He asked me to check on the
gnoll activity in the hills above Lakeshire.
The gnolls have stolen some of their supplies and there have been some
strange activities going on among them.
I agreed to help and we worked out
the details of my payment. I then left
to make my way up to the hills. I saw
lots of activity going on. There were
patrols everywhere and they seemed to be well organized for gnolls. I even saw them ordering about several Ettin
(two headed giants who are very strong and formidable, but not very
smart). Ettin and gnolls do not get
along so that was very strange in and of itself. I made my way around and through camp (I
moved about at night as the night is my race’s element). I listened to conversations and made
notes. I stole back some of the supplies
and stashed them partially down the hill for retrieval later.
I heard them talking about plans
with the Orcs and about the mage using an orb to control the Ettins. I finally found out that the mage and the orb
were holed up in a cave further back in the hills. I made my back there to investigate. I had to kill several gnolls and an Orc after
I entered the cave. I believe they were
so shocked to see a night elf in the cave that they didn’t even have time to
react before my spells killed them. I
checked the bodies to see if there was anything of interest on them. I found plans on the Orc and took them.
Far back in the cave I found the
mage and the orb. He was so confident
that he was safe he didn’t even have guards around him. I observed him for some time and came to the
conclusion that they were going to use the Ettin to attack Lakeshire and they
were using the orb to control the Ettins to do their bidding. I knew the bodies I had tried to hide would
be found soon so my scouting mission was done.
I decided to kill the mage and take the orb so the Ettins could not be
used against the human village. My first
blast was devastating to the mage, but he was stronger than I thought. I managed to get a shield up in time to
deflect his spell and then I cast my strongest spell at him and followed that
up with three quickly thrown arcane bolts.
The element of surprise at the first spell I cast at him allowed me to
come out the victor in that short battle.
I knew the sounds would have been heard and would be investigated. I quickly grabbed the orb and made my way out
of the cavern. I did have to meld into
the shadows on the way out as a party of gnolls came running past.
I quickly made my way through the
camp. On the way out, I saw the leader
of the gnolls. I believe I heard them
call him Yowler. He was alone and I
thought it would be a perfect opportunity to leave the gnolls leaderless for a
bit and throw them into some disarray. Once
again I tapped into the arcane energies that flow through me and I cast my
strongest spell and then the quickly thrown arcane bolts. The spells threw him back and did some
damage, but apparently gnolls are tougher than they look. While I was drawing up the energy needed to
cast my next spell, he charged me. I
sidestepped the charge and he swiped at me with his sword giving me a shallow
cut on my arm. This was not enough to
break my concentration. I released the
fire blast and expected him to drop to the ground, but it was not so. He howled with pain and charged me yet
again. I had to end this quickly before
all this noise drew in more gnolls. As
he drew near me, I hit him with a frost nova thereby freezing him to the ground
momentarily. I then used the blink spell
to transport me about 20 yards away from him.
As he was trying to break free of the ice, I turned and once again cast
my arcane blast followed up with the three arcane bolts. They hit directly in the chest and his
chestplate shattered and he fell to the ground and did not move. I quickly made my way to his side to check
for a pulse. He was dead and there was
much yelling and running in my direction.
I quickly left the area and hid in the hills as daylight was starting to
break.
I stayed in hiding for a couple of
hours to rest and to let the excitement die down a bit. I finally made my way back to Lakeshire and
reported my findings to the Mayor. He
looked rather shocked at what I had managed to do and was excited to get the
plans. It seems that the Blackrock Orcs
are working with the gnolls to attack all the human settlements in
Redridge. Now that we have the plans, we
can work on a counter attack for it. I
am going to get my arm looked at and get some rest while the Mayor and his
advisors try once again to get some aid from the King. The Mayor asked if I would be willing to help
some more as I had proved that I was more than capable. He did offer me more money for my help. I agreed to the terms and now await further
developments.
